Talmage Holt Farlow, known as Tal Farlow, was an American jazz guitarist. He was born on June 7, 1921, in Greensboro, North Carolina, and passed away on July 25, 1998. Farlow is considered one of the greatest jazz guitarists of all time and was known for his incredible speed, dexterity, and harmonic creativity.
Farlow began playing guitar at a young age and became a professional musician in the late 1940s. He gained fame in the 1950s as a member of the trio with pianist Art Tatum and bassist Red Callender. Farlow was also known for his work as a solo artist, recording several albums throughout his career.
Farlow's guitar playing was characterized by his unique chord voicings, melodic improvisation, and incredible technique. He influenced many other guitarists, including Pat Metheny, John Scofield, and Bill Frisell.
In addition to his work as a musician, Farlow was also a talented artist and photographer. He retired from music in the 1960s to focus on his other interests but made a comeback in the 1970s and continued performing until the early 1990s.
